Cures For Impotence – Erectile Dysfunction Is No Longer A Taboo Subject
Good evening world…
I was reading a local magazine when I came across this article that I find it is worth sharing.
No Longer A Taboo Subject – Erectile Dysfunction
Men are willing to discuss the problem and seek treatment for Erectile Dysfunction (ED), which is traditionally regarded as a taboo subject. This is partly due to the availability of oral medications and accurate information regarding sub-optimal erection and its treatment.
However, some men are still misinformed about erection difficulties and continue to struggle in silence. Understanding the facts about erection difficulties is a critical component in removing barriers to seeking help. Here are some common myths about ED.
1. Erection Difficulties Or Problems Mean Loss Of Interest In Sex, Or Lack Of Vigour Or Sterility.
Fact: Erection difficulties relate to getting or keeping a hard erection and do not mean the man loses interest in sex or becomes sterile. Having erection difficulties has nothing to do with a man’s strength, vigour or power. Most men with erection difficulties retain the desire and ability to have an orgasm and ejaculate semen.
2. Men Always Want, And Are Always Capable Of Having Sex.
Fact: The idea that men are always ready, willing and able to have sex is simply not true. In daily life, feeling tired or having concerns about work or family can affect a man’s desire and sexual functioning. Being in the right frame of mind is important for a man’s sexual response.
3. “Real Men” Don’t Experience Erection Difficulties.
Fact: All men, at some point in their lives, will have difficulty in getting or keeping an erection. These difficulties can arise irrespective of a person’s physique, age, ethnicity, cultural attitudes and beliefs. Having trouble achieving or maintaning an erection from time to time isn’t necessarily a cause of concern, but if the problem is ongoing, it can cause personal and relationship problems.
4. Erection Problems Are Uncommon.
Fact: Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is surprising common. According to the Medical Association, 10 per cent of all men have persistent Erectile Dysfunction (ED). In addition, a substantial number of men who do not have clinical ED have sub-optimal erections.
5. Erectile Dysfunction Is A Normal Part Of The Aging Process.
Fact: Erectile Dysfunction should not be accepted as normal by men of any age. Although older men may need longer time to become aroused and may need more physical stimulation, and is therefore more common in older men than younger men, it is no way an inevitable part of the aging process. Indeed, Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a problem in many younger men, too. Changes in lifestyle, such as quitting smoking, exercising regularly, avoiding excessive alcohol consumption, and learning being monitored for chronic diseases like kidney disease, heart disease or diabetes can help decrease a man’s risk of developing Erectile Dysfunction (ED).
6. Erectile Dysfunction Is “All In The Mind”
Fact: Formerly known as “impotence”, Erectile Dysfunction was once predominantly considered a psychological issue. Although Erectile Dysfunction does have psychological causes (anxiety, stress, guilt about sex, fatigue, relationship problems, feelings about partner, depression), it’s now known that around 80 per cent of cases have an underlying physical cause.
7. Erectile Dysfunction Is Strictly A Physical Problem
Fact: Erectile Dysfunction is complex, involving a combination of cognitive, behavioral, emotional, social and physical components. The causes of Erectile Dysfunction are primarily physical or psychological. Physically speaking, an erection is a hydraulic mechanism based upon blood entering and being retained in the penis. This process can be impeded in various ways (vascular conditions, alcohol abuse, medication side effects, diabetes, abnormal nerve function, hormone deficiency, removal of prostate gland for cancer, smoking), most of which are amenable to treatment. Erectile Dysfunction has a psychological cause in around 20 per cent of cases.
8. Erectile Difficulties Will Eventually Go Away
Fact: Erectile Dysfunction, in particular is a medical problem with a medical solution. Just as we should accept treatment for conditions such as high blood pressure, we should also treat Erectile Dysfunction. If left untreated, Erectile Dysfunction can have devastating psychological consequences, including feelings of shame, loss or inadequacy. Moreover, Erectile Dysfunction is treatable at any age regardless of whether the cause is physical or psychological.
9. Erection Difficulties Don’t Really Affect A Man’s Health And He Should Learn To Live With It.
Fact: Erection problems are a significant source of emotional stress and can lead to poor self-image, loss of self-confidence, anxiety and depression. Unfortunately, embarrassment and unwillingness to discuss sexual health openly mean that erection difficulties are often undiagnosed and untreated. Any man with erection difficulties should seek medical advice as erection difficulties, especially Erection Dysfunction, may be associated with an underlying disease that could be harmful if left untreated.
10. Erection Problems Affect Only The Man.
Fact: If erection difficulties are not addressed, both partners in a relationship can suffer. Failure to communicate or acknowledge the problem can lead to depression, anxiety and a lack of self-esteem in both the man and his partner and any tendency to avoid sexual contact often results in martial issues.
11. A Man Has To See His Doctor Several Times Before He Can Begin Treatment.
Fact: In most cases, a single consultation may be all that is needed.
12. Help For Erection Difficulties Or Problems, Involves Embarrassing And Invasive Testing.
Fact: The doctor will take a standard medical history along with a sexual history, and will ask questions relating to lifestyle. Only a standard physical examination is normally required, including taking a man’s blood pressure. Laboratory tests on blood and urine samples will help identify any underlying medical cause that may need treatment.
13. There’s No Point In Seeking Treatment Because Erectile Dysfunction Cannot Be Treated.
Fact: In a majority of cases, Erectile Dysfunction can be successfully treated. It is therefore important for men to seek advice from their doctors to save themselves form further anguish.
